For The Love of Honey

As many of you know, my husband is a beekeeper. While some families have a dog or cat, we have hundreds of thousands of bees! These incredible creatures never cease to amaze me. Their honey is not only delicious but also a powerful natural healer. For centuries, honey has been used for its antibacterial properties, immune support, and soothing benefits. I use it in tea, for sore throats, and of course, in my skincare formulations.

When my husband announced years ago that he wanted to keep bees, I had no objections, and now I can’t imagine life without them. The more I learn about bees, the more in awe I become of their intelligence, teamwork, and the gifts they share with us.

A Swarm in the Trees

Just yesterday, while mowing near our 11 hives, my husband looked up and noticed a massive cluster of bees hanging from the branches above. This was no ordinary sight, it was a swarm.

A swarm happens when part of a hive leaves with a new queen to start a new colony. It’s their way of expanding when the current hive becomes too crowded. The bees cluster together for protection while scouts search for a new home. But if left in the open, especially with heavy rains on the way, the swarm could be lost.

My husband knew he needed to act quickly. Armed with a ladder and steady nerves, he cut the branch holding the swarm and gently shook the bees into a temporary hive box. Bees filled the air in a buzzing cloud, but miraculously, not a single sting! Watching it unfold was both terrifying and awe-inspiring, so of course, I had to capture it on video. Listening to the roar of thousands of bees was unforgettable, a reminder of the raw, powerful beauty of nature.

Why Honey Belongs in Skincare

Beyond their fascinating behaviors, bees give us honey, a golden treasure packed with skin-loving properties:

  • Antibacterial & Healing: Helps fight acne and soothes irritation.
  • Moisturizing: Locks in hydration, leaving skin soft and supple.
  • Rich in Antioxidants: Protects against environmental stressors and premature aging.
  • Gentle Exfoliation: Natural enzymes brighten and smooth skin.

It’s no wonder honey has been used for centuries as a beauty staple, from Cleopatra’s baths to modern formulations.
